In this week's edition of our 'Men in Black' feature, we take a look at Germany's leading referee Felix Brych.
NAME: Felix Brych D.O.B: 03/09/1974 NATIONALITY: German REFEREEING STYLE: Strict, Authoritative |
In February 2008, Brych was appointed to a Round 32 match between Panathinaikos and Rangers, but also in October that year he was appointed to a UEFA Champions League group game between Liverpool and PSV Eindhoven. In the seasons that followed, Brych became a regular in the Champions League and was entrusted with the bigger games.
|
Arguably Brych's biggest match on the European stage to date was the first leg of the 2011-12 Champions League semi final, between Chelsea and Barcelona. However, high up on the Germans honour list has to be the 2013 Europa League Final, contested between Sevilla and Benfica on 14th May 2014.
Brych's consistently good performances were rewarded and he was selected for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where he refereed two games - Uruguay v Costa Rica and Belgium v Russia. |
